The Opportunity

This is an exciting time to join WCCCA in this newly created position. This position will play a key role in supervising and coordinating the Agency’s emergency medical dispatch (EMD) program and fire services liaison. This position will also oversee the Agency’s Training department and Records department. This is full time, non-exempt position reporting to the Dispatch Operations Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and coordinate the Agency’s EMD program to include the emergency medical services (EMS) quality improvement (QI) committee, hard copy and electronic medical guide cards. Ensure that EMS QI sentinel events and frequency indicators are reflective of industry standards and performance benchmarks set by user agencies. Work collaboratively with the Performance Supervisor to document and track EMS QI benchmarks.
  • Attend and participate in committees, conferences, meetings, task forces and technical groups representing the Agency to coordinate emergency services, fire and training needs.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations staff to ensure EMD performance and operational trainings are scheduled, implemented and working effectively.
  • Provide recommendations for procedures and processes to advance the Agency’s EMD and training program; provide recommendations toward improvement of Agency culture and work environment.
  • Provide oversight of Agency training and the coaching program for operational personnel. Ensure that a comprehensive training plan is developed on an annual basis to include budgetary impacts. Work collaboratively with the Training Coordinator to facilitate training opportunities with user agencies and provide opportunities to all staff as available and necessary. Deliver training in the absence of the Training Coordinator as necessary.
  • Provide oversight of the release of audio and incident information as coordinated by the Agency’s Audio Reproductionist. Act as liaison for Audio Reproductionist regarding issues with the district attorney’s office, citizen requests, etc.
  • Direct the investigation and resolution of complaints and inquiries as necessary from employees, citizens and users regarding EMD services and performance, training and audio requests; review completed investigation reports and determine appropriate action. Conduct other investigations as assigned by the Operations Manager.

  • Required Qualifications:

    A minimum of three years of demonstrated progressive responsibility as a communications dispatcher or in a communications center; must have experience as a police/fire dispatcher and call taker. Demonstration of experience and/or education in conflict management, interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence; experience in training, coaching or acting as a lead dispatcher preferred; and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of supervisory duties. Demonstrated leadership experience.


    Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Must complete required Basic DPSST Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical
  • Dispatcher certificate within one year of hire.
  • Must complete required DPSST Supervision training within 18 months of hire.
  • Must complete required ICS classes within one year of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain LEDS certification.
